Privacy Policy
Effective 16 October 2026
The short version
- Love-40 has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we run no servers that receive your data.
- Your matches, players, stats and settings are stored on your Apple Watch and iPhone. If you're signed in to iCloud, matches and players are also kept in your own private iCloud database so they reach your other iPhones; we can't see it. Health figures are never stored in iCloud.
- Health data (heart rate, calories, steps, distance) is used only to show your workout and is never used for advertising or shared with us or anyone else.
- To fill in the venue and weather, your iPhone sends the match location to Apple Maps and the location and time to Apple Weather. That's the only data that leaves your devices, apart from backups you choose to save elsewhere.
1. Who we are
Love-40 (“the app”) is a tennis and padel scoring app for Apple Watch and iPhone, published by MN Design (“we”, “us”), based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the Love-40 apps and to this website.
Because the app keeps your data on your own devices and in your own iCloud account, we do not collect, receive or store your personal data. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, you can contact us about this policy at info@mndesign.co.uk.
2. What data the app uses
| Data | What it's used for | Where it's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Match data | Scores, the time of each point, match format, sport, court and surface, excuses you log, serving order. Used to keep score and build your stats. | On your watch and iPhone, and in your private iCloud |
| Player names | Names you type or dictate for opponents and partners, so you can see head-to-heads. | On your watch and iPhone, and in your private iCloud |
| Health & fitness | Heart rate, active calories, steps and walking/running distance during a match, and the Tennis workout saved to Apple Health. See Health data. | On your devices and in Apple Health (not in iCloud) |
| Location | One location fix when a match starts, to find the venue and the weather. See Location. | On your watch and iPhone, and in your private iCloud |
| Venue & weather | The nearest club name and the weather conditions for the hours you played. | On your iPhone, and in your private iCloud |
| Settings | Your default match format, comments mode, appearance and similar preferences. | On your watch and iPhone |
The app does not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, advertising identifier, device identifiers, or usage analytics. It contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking code. In App Store terms, we do not collect data from this app.
3. Health data
If you allow it, the watch app uses Apple HealthKit to run a Tennis workout while you play. With your permission it:
- reads heart rate, active energy burned, step count and walking/running distance during the match, to show them on the watch and iPhone and in your match summary;
- writes a Tennis workout (indoor or outdoor) to Apple Health when the match ends. Padel matches are saved as Tennis workouts, with the sport noted in the workout's details.
Health data is used only to provide these features. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with us or any third party, and never stored in iCloud by the app. Summary figures (for example average heart rate and calories for a match) are kept with the match on your devices and are included in backups and CSV exports that you create.
Health access is optional. You can refuse it, or change it at any time in the iPhone's Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Love-40. Scoring works the same without it.
4. Location
With your permission (“While Using the App”), the watch takes a single location fix at the start of a match. It is not tracked during the match and is never collected in the background.
The location is saved with the match and used by your iPhone to:
- look up the nearest tennis or padel club using Apple Maps, so the venue can be named; and
- fetch the weather for the hours you played from Apple Weather. This is skipped for matches marked as indoors.
You can decline location access, or turn it off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. You can also change or type a venue name yourself on any match.
5. Third parties
We do not sell or share your data. The app talks to these services only to provide the features described above:
| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (WatchConnectivity) | Your matches, players and settings, sent between your own paired Apple Watch and iPhone. | To sync your devices and show the live score on your iPhone. |
| Apple iCloud (CloudKit) | Your matches (without Health figures) and player names, to your own private iCloud database. Only you can see it; we can't. | To sync your iPhones and keep your matches if you reinstall. Only if you're signed in to iCloud; you can turn it off in Settings › [your name] › iCloud. Apple's privacy policy applies. |
| Apple Maps (MapKit) | The match location. | To find the nearest club. Apple's privacy policy applies. |
| Apple Weather (WeatherKit) | The match location and the start and end time of the match. | To get the weather while you played. No account or identifier is sent. Apple's privacy policy applies. |
| Apple Health | The workout described in Health data. | Only if you allow it. |
If you choose to export a backup or CSV to another place, such as iCloud Drive, or share a result card, that copy is handled by the service you choose, under its own terms.
6. Storage and retention
Your data is kept on your devices until you delete it. You can:
- delete a match by swiping it in the match list;
- remove players in Defaults › Players;
- delete everything by deleting the app from your iPhone and Apple Watch.
The iPhone app keeps an automatic backup file in the Files app (On My iPhone › Love-40), which is removed when you delete the app. Workouts saved to Apple Health stay in Health until you delete them there, and any backups or exports you saved elsewhere stay until you delete them.
7. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and similar laws you have rights to access, correct, delete and export your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it is used. Because your data stays on your devices, you can exercise these rights directly in the app: view and edit your matches and players, export a backup or CSV, and delete anything you like.
If you have a question or concern, contact us at info@mndesign.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
8. Children
Love-40 is suitable for players of all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. Health and location access can be managed by a parent or guardian through the device's settings and Screen Time.
9. This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and your IP address is visible to them; see Google's privacy policy. Our web host may keep standard server logs for security.
10. Changes to this policy
If the app starts using data in a new way, we will update this policy and the effective date above before the change is released. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the App Store release notes.
